It’s shown countless others how to help support those who are grieving. Since it was published in May of 2018, it’s helped thousands of people to know they are not alone in their experience. At the end of the book, I write: “ My heart is still expanding, allowing me to leave pieces of him and our love in the hearts of others.” It’s a legacy of love left by Jim. I was able to put our love into action by writing my book, You Are Not Alone. I turned to Jennee and said, “I don’t know how yet, I don’t know what yet, but some day, somehow, something good has to come out of this. Something that can help others.” As Malloy wrote: “when all that’s left of me is love, give me away.” And now, with Jennee at the wheel, “what does it all mean” kept circling in my mind, as if I was asking the universe for the answer. This was at least the ten-thousandth time I’d asked myself that question. His death, the loss of him. It had to mean something, didn’t it? I wondered if I would ever see beauty in anything ever again. I felt as though the road ahead for me was endless, too. We drove through the red rock mountains, with the wide expanse of desert blue sky seemingly expanding out forever, and an endless stretch of road ahead. Jennee was there to catch me in Arizona, far away from familiar. I’d made it through the holidays in a haze of shock, followed by my birthday, his birthday, (he would have been 46) and now our wedding anniversary. I couldn’t bear being in the spring of New York, as all the firsts were piling up fast. I was in that exhausting place between not wanting to believe this WAS reality and the piercing pain of acceptance creeping in around the edges of my stubborn denial. And as so many of you know, it begins with baby steps, one step at a time, one breath at a time.Ībout six months after Jim died, my Aunt Jennee and I were driving through the vastness of desert on a clear, cloudless, hot day. It began with the love and support of many, the angels in my life who held me and helped me put back together the pieces of my broken heart. I had to build a new life, and believe me, it was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done.

And it’s true, the life we shared, the life I had with him, was over. When my husband died, suddenly, of an aortic aneurysm, I thought my life was over. Effectively leaving the reader with a serene after feel. This exquisite poem resonated so deeply, because it beautifully articulates what I wanted to accomplish when I wrote You Are Not Alone. The poem itself has a very slow, peaceful feel that really suits the Buddha theme. A very creative approach that most poets may shy away from. Billy Collins showed a true inventive setup with the simple task of shoveling snow with an iconic human, being Gautama Buddha. There is no real sense of rhythm, however, the story aspect is strong. The poem could be as you may say, a "prosetry" a prose and poem mixed. The repetition of "Rage, rage against the dying of the light." Brings a rising indescribable emotion …show more content… The poem was introduced to me as a senior in high school and has influenced me to write a poem on a similar basis.

The meaning behind the poem is thought to be of a person preparing for death Perhaps a Viking gearing for war or a suicidal man.

A verse from the poem could be heard in the movie Interstellar, an iconic sci-fi space film. The second poem, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas is a famous poem known by many. This is a typical poem with repetition, rhythm, and beauty through words. The rhythm is the most likeable aspect such as "weep/sleep, blow/snow, cry/die.". Elizabeth Frye portrays death as harmonious, which is beautiful. The story leaves the reader with a tranquil thought of the afterlife that is unique. Don't get me wrong the poem had outstanding aspects and a great concept. The first poem, Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep by Mary Elizabeth Frye was my least favorable. Each one of these poems had succeeded in the purpose of leaving the reader in awe and entertaining through-out. The three poems I had chosen were Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep by Mary Elizabeth Frye, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, Shoveling Snow With Buddha by Billy Collins. A great poem in definition leaves the reader on a trance train of thought.
